Family Home Evening

Last night was Family Home Evening. The kids love Monday nights. Julia and Doug prepared the lesson and we learned about Helaman and the 2000 Stripling Warriors. Then for the Activity and Treat, they got to decorate a Huge cookie and eat it (well we made them stop, so they wouldn't get sick at night). Julia started eating it and said "The world is good". She is so funny. Sawyer is in bed, we try to send him to bed as early as possible, it makes us all happier.

October fun weekend in Texas!

This past Saturday was a lot of fun for the fam. First thing, we went on a Pecan nut hunt not far from our house. I've seen a lot of older Asian couples out picking up pecans and having sacks full of them. These trees grow everywhere, so any green space is fair game. I've never seen a family go pick them, but I made that change. I forgot my camera, which makes me sad, but we had lot of fun. We found two big trees and started filling up our sacks. I wanted to get enough to make a Pecan Pie for Thanksgiving, and we did that. I may even take the kids again this coming Saturday while Doug is gone. It was fun for me.
Later that day we went to pick out a pumpkin to carve. I only knew of one actual "pumpkin patch" and it was pretty pricey just to enter, so we chose a great Nursery. The kids got to pick out their own pumpkins, and Sawyer pulled the wagon. With free popcorn and water, the kids were pretty satisfied. I tried to get a picture with all four together, but Sawyer doesn't like to stand still at all.

I finished!

Well, I just had to show you that I actually completed a entire project. I started this table runner at my mom's house in July and didn't even know if I'd finish before Halloween. But yesterday, I decided to finish it all. I may have neglected my kids after school, but they'll all survive. You won't be able to see this, but I quilted this with my machine in between all of the blocks and down the middle section too. Also, Madi wanted to show you our Halloween decorations too.

Preparing for Hurricane Ike

Well I never thought I would really see what a Hurricane is, but we got to experience Hurricane Ike. The days before the storm, I prepared, made sure I had a menu of food to prepare with no electricity. The day before the Hurricane hit, we were told we were in for a direct hit, so we prepared for the worst. We cleared everything out of our backyard, which took a couple of nights (we had to dissasemble the trampoline). Then Doug placed the box spring mattress to our guest bed again the inside window to prevent glass shattering everywhere in the event of the worst. And since the kids all sleep upstairs and we're downstairs, we moved the top of the queen bed into our master closet (the inner most room in our home) and that's where we slept the night of the hurricane. It got kind of hot because we lost power early Friday evening, but at least I knew we were all safe. What an adventure. I'll post more details about after, thought I didn't take any still pics of after because we didn't have much damage. I do have video of it, though I don't know how to post that. What I learned from this Hurricane is that I'm glad I was prepared, because we didn't fear. It got hot because of no AC which is relied on heavily, but we managed just fine. The kids didn't have school for a week, so we just played like it was summer again.

Madisen is 4

Madisen turned 4 September 9th. We had a bear party for preschool that morning. And then headed off to her choosing of Incredible Pizza. It's a fun place around here. You eat pizza

while watching a show and then you can go and play games. The kids raced in a car with dad, played a snowmobile game, a driving game, rode on a mini train, plane and we even bowled too. What a fun night. Madisen wanted a Bear day, so she got a bear cake. What a perfect day, we all had fun celebrating her birthday.

Madisen's First day of Preschool

Madisen had to have her shining moment too. This was her first day of preschool. I have a group and we trade weeks and houses. She loves it. It's all girls which is especially fun.
